Ingredients:

  • 2 slices of bread

  • 4 slices of ham

  • 4 slices of linguiça (Portuguese sausage)

  • 4 slices of roast beef

  • 4 slices of cheese (such as cheddar or gouda)

  • 1 egg

  • Olive oil or butter, for frying

For the tomato sauce:

  • 1 can of crushed tomatoes

  • 1 onion, finely diced

  • 1 clove of garlic, minced

  • 1 bay leaf

  • 1 cinnamon stick

  • 1 teaspoon of paprika

  • Salt and pepper, to taste

  • 1 tablespoon of butter

  • 1 tablespoon of flour

  • 1 cup of beef broth

  • 1 cup of beer

Instructions:

  1. To make the tomato sauce, heat the butter in a saucepan over medium heat. Add the onion and garlic and sauté until soft.

  2. Add the crushed tomatoes, bay leaf, cinnamon stick, paprika, salt, and pepper to the saucepan and bring to a boil. Reduce the heat to low and simmer for 10 minutes.

  3. In a separate pan, melt the butter over medium heat. Add the flour and stir to form a paste. Slowly add the beef broth and beer, stirring constantly until the sauce thickens.

  4. Add the beef broth mixture to the tomato sauce and stir to combine. Simmer for an additional 5 minutes, or until the sauce has thickened.

  5. Heat a small amount of olive oil or butter in a frying pan over medium heat. Place the slices of bread in the pan and top with the ham, sausage, roast beef, and cheese. Fry until the cheese is melted and the bread is toasted.

  6. Crack an egg into the frying pan, on top of the sandwich. Cook until the egg is set, then top the sandwich with the second slice of bread.

  7. Pour the tomato sauce over the sandwich and enjoy your meal!
